My 5-Step System to Convert News Videos into Viral Reels Using AI...

…and how you can clone it.

As someone who’s always on the lookout for the latest tech news, I’ve often found myself wanting to share key moments from events like Apple’s WWDC keynotes or Google’s I/O conferences and now with Intel’s Lunar Lake series 2 chips. However, the process of creating shareable content from these events used to be a time-consuming one.

The Old Way

Here’s a breakdown of the old process:

  1. Download Video (10 minutes)
  2. Import video into Editing Software (2 minutes)
  3. Search for key moments in video (2 hours)
  4. Video Edit (4 hours)
  5. Captions (1 hour)
  6. Render (10 minutes)
  7. Post (15 minutes)

Total: 7.6 hours

As you can see, it used to take me around 7–8 hours to go from downloading a video to reviewing, editing, and posting the important key information revealed during these events. This process was not only time-consuming but also inefficient.

The New AI Way

I’ve developed a new 5-step system using AI that streamlines the process of converting news into viral reels. Here’s how it works:

Step 1: Get the Video Link

I start by getting the link of the video keynote or tech news that I want to report on for social media.

Step 2: Use Descript to Download and Create Short-Form Content

I then copy the source video link into Descript, which automatically downloads the video for me without using any third-party tools. Descript’s new UnderLord AI set of tools allows me to create short-form content suitable for Instagram, YouTube Shorts, and TikTok. The AI engine analyzes the text and snips only the important sections of the video, combining them into a 60-second video. The best part? I can create multiple videos in a short span of time. To create one video, it takes me less than 5 minutes.

Step 3: Use Perplexity to Research and Auto-Generate Content

Next, I use Perplexity to research the event and auto-generate the content that I’ll use for my social media post. Perplexity summarizes the content from various news sources, giving me a solid foundation to work with.

Step 4: Use ChatGPT to Format the Content

Sometimes, the content from Perplexity has a bit too much information and isn’t in a consumable format. That’s where ChatGPT comes in. I use ChatGPT to format the news text about the event into a listicle post with a strong hook to grab attention. It also keeps the content short and concise with hashtags and a call to action, according to my preferred viral formatting. I’m planning on creating my own app with the ChatGPT API as well as my own local large language models to format this content, rather than relying on ChatGPT threads which sometimes forget what they need to do.

Step 5: Publish the Video and Post

When I’m ready, I either publish the video to YouTube from Descript or download it and then upload it to other platforms not supported by Descript, like LinkedIn and Instagram.

The entire process takes me only 10 minutes to create a reel and post of a 30–60 minute video.

The Problem

Now, I’d like to pose a problem to you. Let’s say you’re a business owner who wants to create short-form content from your company’s events, but you don’t have the time or resources to do so. How would you go about streamlining this process using AI?

Join Me on This Journey

I’m currently working on building my own optimal business systems with AI, and I’d love for you to join me on this journey. I’ll be running various experiments and sharing my findings with you. As a result, I’ll be putting together an AI Business Systems Handbook, which you can download for free when it’s ready.
